Bumpkin Restaurant - South Kensington

Bumpkin boasts an open plan kitchen, two restaurants, external eating areas, bars and a private dining venue.

Much of the existing fit-out elements were re-used such as the painted timber paneling, areas of existing brickwork and by the exposing of existing structural steelwork.  These finishes were complimented by the insertion of a high quality hardwood and marble bar and a slick but country style wallpaper, different to the one used in the Notting Hill scheme but similarly a strong addition to the decorative finishes.

The overall scheme involved relocating the existing toilets from the rear of the ground floor space to a newly enlarged basement area and the installation of an open kitchen into the vacated space.  This is a critical part of Bumpkin, both operationally and aesthetically and the visibility from the entrance area of the restaurant is key.  To maintain the visibility, structural alterations had to be carried out to open up the central area and improve the site lines.  As often with high street locations, the layout of the scheme would have been compromised by the long thin nature of the existing architecture of the building, which has over the years had additions made.
